Sure he's all heroic and stuff... but he's one of the 'classics' that I just never really got into... Ok, hey... I can say I dug the X-Men when Cap and Wolvie... saved the Black Widow... that was some awesome stuff... but Cap's... always been one of those 'mainstays'... you didn't have to like him... or love him... he was just there... So, imagine my surprise when I found out he was dead. Dead? Dead.... Really... Dead! (Ok... so I admit, this is a comic book, and 'dead' in a comic book comes with all sorts of flexibility!!) But still... So... I'm tryin' to draw last night... and this is what happened. It's a tribute piece. To a fallen hero! -Neb!

I came to participate in the Cap tribute. That's a great pic of Cap, Neb. Be merciful with your criticism, folks. I did this rather quickly. I read Hunter's post yesterday afternoon, sketched and scanned the pic last night and did a little Photoshop cleanup and coloring after work today. I'm actually pretty happy with it, since I'm more of a writer than a cartoonist. Anyway, my Cap tribute:

A Cap statue doing that Kneel down thinking mans pose from way back then..from some other artists I can't remember. But have the cap statue smaller in front of the Statue of Liberty, spray painted red, white and blue ala Jim Morrison's resting place in paris before they exhumed him. So, it's like Cap layed down his life for lady liberty. Did any of that make any sense?

That's how much I liked that issue cause I constantly read it, and drew/copied the pictures, lol. That one is probably my all time favorite of Jim Lee's work.

I don't think they'd do something like that on Liberty Island; they'd go more for the inspirational Kirbyesque pose, symmetrical with the SOL. I can see the laying-down-his-life pose as, say, a bronze statue in a park, or maybe in DC; perhaps even under a columned dome like the Jefferson Memorial. Then, as grieving crowds gather around it, it is spray-painted red, white and blue. Nice!
